How to Buy a Winter Coat

How to buy a winter coat I know I don't have to tell you that a winter coat can be a real investment. It's one garment that we often don't hesitate to splurge on as it keeps us warm and cosy on dull and cold days. Most of the coats I wear now have been in my wardrobe for years so I definitely spent my money well.

With this in mind, today I wanted to share with you a few things you should take into consideration when buying your next winter coat.

How to buy a winter coat

Choose a neutral colour

If you want to invest in only one coat this season, pick something in a neutral colour. It will be versatile and will go well with everything else you have in your wardrobe.

Pick a classic fabric

I often look for coats that are a blend of wool and cashmere. They are a bit pricier than most coats available in shops but they are super warm and will never go out of style.

Make sure there is enough room to wear layers underneath

I think it's self-explanatory. I've seen so many great coats on High Street but they didn't have enough room around the arms. How are you supposed to wear thick jumpers underneath?

Look at lengths

When buying a coat, choose the right length for your wardrobe. If you wear a lot of dresses and skirts, coats that sit on your knee will look the best.  If you're petite, don't buy a calf-length coat. It will swamp your smaller frame.

Pick a classic style

If you want your coat to see you through seasons, pick a style that will transcend all trends.
