Although I've been running My Daily Wear for 18 months, I still find it difficult to explain to some people what I do and why. I think they may have read Urban Dictionary's definition of a blogger which describes us as people with "enough time or narcissism to document every tedious bit of minutia filling their uneventful lives.
"
As blogging continues to grow, it shouldn't be surprising to see that people make more and more assumptions about this new medium. With blogging myths all around us, today I wanted to share with you the top 4 misconceptions about fashion bloggers I've heard since launching this online space.
All fashion bloggers do is dress up in pretty clothes and take pictures.
I really wish some people realise that fashion blogging involves more than wearing pretty clothes and posing to photos. Just like other bloggers, we spend a lot of time thinking about blog ideas, editing photos, writing posts, scheduling social media content, etc. We often have to juggle blogging alongside a full-time job and other commitments so it's not as trivial as it may look like.
A fashion blogger's wardrobe is filled to the brim with free clothes.
There is a big misconception that bloggers receive freebies every day. While it's true that brands sometimes offer us free products to review, we put a lot of effort into our blog posts. At the end of the day, nothing in life is free.
Fashion bloggers only wear designer brands.
If you follow my blog from time to time, you have probably noticed that over half of my wardrobe comes from Tesco. While some people spend a fortune on designer clothes, I'm not ashamed to admit that I shop on a budget. I set up My Daily Wear to showcase my personal style as I'm a firm believer that you don't have to break the bank to look elegant.
Bloggers love the spotlight.
While I post outfit photos on my blog and Instagram page, I can assure you that I don't crave attention. I can be quite shy and I'd rather stay at home than attend a huge party.
Fashion bloggers only read fashion magazines and talk about clothes.
It really annoys me when some people assume that just because I talk about clothes on my blog, I must be shallow and dumb. I have a Master's degree and can hold a decent conversation. Also as an avid reader, I love curling up on the sofa with a great book and a cup of coffee.
What do you think about these fashion blogging myths? Is there anything else you would add to the list?
